Hydrocephalus Awareness

September is Hydrocephalus Awareness month!  Hydrocephalus is a medical condition in which cerebrospinal fluid, or CSF, collects in the ventricles in the brain causing increased intracranial pressure. This is a very serious medical condition that can cause enlargement of the head, seizures, mental disability, and even death if left untreated. Please visit http://www.hydroassoc.org/ for more information.

The number of people who develop hydrocephalus or who are currently living with it is difficult to establish since there is no national registry or database of people with the condition. However, experts estimate that hydrocephalus affects approximately 1 in every 500 children.

This is one of a few conditions that my nephew has.  He is such an amazing little boy.  He is my hero.  He is defying odds left and right; he is doing it with a smile!  I encourage you to take a few minutes to learn about this condition and raise your awareness.
